An HSS beam connects to an HSS column using a cap plate matching the vertical wall thickness with a minimum of five-sixteenths of an inch. A half-inch clearance separates the HSS beam from the column continuation where it occurs above. The assembly is secured with quarter-inch fillet welds as specified.
