A structural steel column bears on a base plate sized per plan, with finished column ends and base plate conforming to AISC specifications. The assembly is anchored to concrete using four three-quarter-inch diameter anchor rods with a one-foot minimum embedment. Non-shrink grout fills the one-and-a-half-inch space beneath the base plate, while the contractor holds the base plate rigidly in place during grouting. Fillet welds connect the steel column to the base plate as detailed.
