Concrete placement procedures at a reinforced concrete column and beam joint where differing compressive strengths occur. Construction joints are located above and below the intersection, with a typical two-foot extension into the connecting beam or slab. Where the column concrete compressive strength exceeds one point two five times the beam strength, higher-strength concrete is puddled within the hatched intersection zone. Spirally reinforced columns require the beam intersection to match the full column concrete strength. Similar provisions apply when the column strength exceeds one point four times the slab strength.
