A steel column cap plate connection features the column web perpendicular to the framing beams. A column cap plate measuring one and one-quarter inches thick sits atop the column per the elevation, welded with complete joint penetration welds. Three-quarter-inch stiffener plates are located in two places and welded to the column web with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on three sides. A backing plate measuring three-eighths by four inches by one foot four inches includes two three-quarter-inch diameter erection bolts. Framing beams connect via a shear connection specified on sheet S6.11, with metal deck bearing on top per plan.
