A wide-flange steel column is welded to a base plate with a five-eighths inch complete-joint-penetration weld at the web and a one-inch complete-joint-penetration weld typically at the flange. The base plate features an anchor bolt configuration with five-inch edge distances and equal spacing along both the length and width axes. A central grout hole is provided in the base plate. All column welds to the base plate are specified as demand critical welds.
