This connection secures a hollow structural section beam to an existing roof joist using L4x3x1/4 steel angles placed on each side of the hollow structural section. The angles are attached to the hollow structural section with a 1/4 inch fillet weld and to the joist with a 3/16 inch fillet weld, applied typically at each end. If the hollow structural section does not land within 8 inches of the existing joist panel point, an additional L3x3x1/4 angle is required on the opposite side of the hollow structural section. The 8-inch maximum distance from the panel point must be field verified during installation.
