Two steel beams meet end-to-end and connect via half-inch by seven-inch steel plates attached to each side of the beam webs. Six seven-eighth-inch A325N bolts with standard holes secure the joint through the plates. Weld access holes are cut into the beam webs to facilitate the connection welds. Fillet welds of three-sixteenth-inch and five-sixteenth-inch sizes join the plates and elements as detailed. Complete joint penetration welds are applied at the top and bottom flanges.
