Continuity plates are positioned on both sides of a structural steel column web with a thickness based on the connecting beam flanges. A cope is provided at the continuity plate with no weld placed within one-half inch per AISC dimension k1 and one and one-half inches per AISC dimension k from the column flange. Optional welds and plate thicknesses equal to half the plate thickness are indicated at the web and flange connections.
