Continuity plates are welded to both sides of a steel column web with thicknesses based on the connected beam flanges. A cope is provided at the continuity plate with no weld, leaving a one-half-inch clearance per AISC dimension k1, and one-and-a-half-inch clearance per AISC dimension k. Additional optional welds are specified typically at the web and flange connections.
