An HSS beam connects to a carrying hollow structural section member using a five-sixteenths inch shear plate welded to the carrying member with a one-quarter inch fillet weld on three sides. The connection is secured with an erection bolt through the web and shear plate. A maximum one-half inch clearance is maintained between the framing members, with the plate set back three inches. A companion elevation shows the framing layout and section cut.
