The steel column splice detail connects upper and lower column segments with plates at the column web or through direct welds to the column webs. Plates are provided on each side of the column web, with field welds designated by flag symbols. Flange connections are detailed with specific weld symbols at each flange. Column ends are finished for full bearing typically. An alternate welded web connection is permitted in lieu of the web plate per contractor option.
