A hollow structural section column supports a half-inch cap plate welded to its top with field welds on three sides. A moment frame beam frames into the column per plan, secured with complete joint penetration welds typical on each side. Non-frame beams frame in on either side with fillet welds specified at quarter-inch sizes.
