A continuous structural steel angle section measuring L3x3x1/4 is placed at the edge of the roof deck. A bent plate closure, sized per the accompanying table based on dimension L, bears on top of a hollow structural section member. The bent plate has a minimum bend radius equal to 1.5 times the plate thickness and is secured with a one-quarter inch fillet weld with three-inch welds spaced at twelve inches on center typically. A companion table specifies closure plate thicknesses ranging from three-sixteenths to five-sixteenths of an inch for dimension L spans under six inches up to twelve inches.
