All slab reinforcement continues uninterrupted through the construction joint. The size of the joint reinforcing bars is determined by the total slab depth dimension D. Bars are sized as number 3 bars at twelve inches on center when depth is two and one-half inches or less. Bars are sized as number 4 bars at twelve inches on center when depth is greater than two and one-half inches and up to four and three-quarter inches. Bars are sized as number 5 bars at twelve inches on center when depth exceeds four and three-quarter inches. The metal deck spans in either direction across the joint.
