A hollow structural section stair stringer connects to a supporting steel beam sized per plan using a series of welded plates. A one-half-inch by seven-inch by one-foot-three-and-a-half-inch plate is welded to the steel beam with five-sixteenths inch welds. A three-sixteenths inch end plate and a one-quarter inch bent plate connect the stringer assembly with five-sixteenths inch fillet welds typical.
