A braced frame column with its base plate is centered within a concrete block-out having a smooth surface on all four sides to provide a bond breaker before pouring concrete. The surrounding block-out features two number four U-bars typically spaced with a three-inch typical dimension and one-inch clearance typical, along with two number four bars by three-feet-zero-inches long typically. Control joints are aligned at the column line and detailed with two layers of continuous sheet flexible foam and joint filler sealant. Acceptable flexible foam isolation joint filler products include Ceramar or Deck-O-Foam by W. R. Meadows.
