This assembly connects a hollow structural section beam to a wide flange collector beam using a one-quarter inch full-depth shear tab. The shear tab is welded to the wide flange beam web, and the hollow structural section beam is bolted to the tab. A twelve-gauge continuous Z-plate with three-inch minimum long top and bottom flanges provides a transition between the roof joist assembly and the metal stud wall above. The metal stud wall is installed after the structural steel, with the Z-plate secured to the wide flange beam top flange via one-half inch diameter puddle welds spaced at sixteen inches on center.
