Hollow structural section columns are capped with a minimum one-quarter inch steel plate welded with a three-sixteenths inch fillet weld. The standard configuration features a one-half inch overhang on all sides. An alternative option is provided where the cap plate is shaped flush to match the hollow structural section profile to prevent interference with adjacent structural or architectural detailing.
