A buckling-restrained brace connects to a steel column web with a bolted gusset plate assembly. The frame beam frames into the column via a typical shear tab with five vertical bolts. Continuity plates are provided per the typical continuity plate detail, and all corresponding welds are designated as demand critical. A half-inch minimum stiffener plate is placed on both sides to align with the edge of the gusset. Additional stiffener plates are included when less than 3 inches, along with free edge stiffeners where required by the brace manufacturer. Complete joint penetration welds on the top and bottom flange are also marked as demand critical per AWS D1.1.
WORK POINT NOTES: 1. COORDINATE GUSSET PLATES AND WELDING TO BASEPLATE WITH BRB MANUFACTURER. 2. ALL WELDS TO BE SHOP OR FIELD WELDED AT ERECTORS OR FABRICATORS DISCRETION. 3. WELDED, BOLTED, SCREWED OR SHOT-IN ATTACHMENTS FOR NON-STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS ARE PROHIBITED WITHIN THE PROTECTED REGIONS. SEE "BRB PROTECTED ZONES" DETAIL FOR LOCATIONS. ANY OTHER CONNECTIONS TO THE BRACE ARE TO BE APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER AND THE BRB MANUFACTURERR. 4.
