A W21 canopy beam frames into a W12 structural steel column with architecturally exposed structural steel welds and plates. The connection features a five-eighths inch thick plate matching the beam flange width and depth, welded with complete joint penetration welds and field weld symbols. Five-eighths inch stiffener plates are provided on each side of the column web. The beam web connects using a one-half inch by six-and-one-half-inch plate with eight three-quarter-inch diameter A325 slip-critical bolts, with shop assembly permitted at the contractor's option. Five-sixteenth inch fillet welds are specified typically throughout.
