An HSS beam frames into a boxed wide-flange beam using a side plate and a half-inch maximum clearance. Three-eighths-inch thick stiffener plates are welded to each side of the HSS beam with one-quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides to the wide-flange beam. Structural angles measuring L4x3x3/8 are placed on each side of the HSS beam and welded with one-quarter-inch fillet welds near side and far side typically.
