The steel beam connects to the column flange using a shear tab plate sized to match or exceed the largest beam web thickness. Continuity plates are provided at each side of the column web, matching or exceeding the largest beam flange thickness. A cap plate matching or exceeding the largest beam flange is placed at the top of the column. A backing plate per schedule is installed with two 3/4-inch diameter erection bolts. A complete joint penetration weld with double bevel and backing weld is specified at the top and bottom flanges.
