A four-by wood nailer is fastened to the top flange of a steel beam using seven-eighths-inch diameter welded threaded rods spaced at sixteen inches on center, staggered across the beam width. The rods are countersunk to a maximum depth of three-quarters of an inch. One rod is placed within nine inches of each end of the nailer and at each splice. The assembly includes two rows of nailing at beam-nailer spacing, with four lines used where the spacing is staggered and six lines where three lines of nailing are required. A five-inch diameter maximum hole is permitted for pipes at ten-foot intervals on center if required by approved sprinkler drawings. A two-and-a-half-inch minimum clearance is maintained for typical conditions.
