A steel beam connects to a hollow structural section column using a typical shear plate bolted to the beam web. Cap plates and continuity plates match the thickness of the thickest welded beam flange plus one-eighth inch, with a width matching the greater of the column or the welded beam flange. Complete joint penetration welds secure the beam flanges to the column with standard weld access holes provided at typical locations. The roof deck is omitted where applicable and indicated on the structural plans.
