Concrete masonry unit wall openings are reinforced with head bars, jamb bars, and sill bars anchored into the surrounding masonry and foundation. Two number five bars are provided for openings up to six feet wide, and two number six bars for openings up to eight feet wide. Trim bars require standard hooks where straight development length cannot be maintained. Vertical reinforcement extends into the foundation with a minimum twelve inch embedment, and horizontal bars lap splice according to specified development lengths.
