An open-web steel joist bottom chord is detailed adjacent to a steel column. A minimum one-quarter-inch by six-inch by zero-foot-six-inch plate with a thirteen-sixteenths-inch diameter hole is welded to the column with three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds. The joist bottom chord is left unattached to the plate, with a minimum three-inch clearance noted. This connection is provided at every location where a joist is directly aligned with a column.
