A vertical structural steel stub column connects to a supporting wide-flange beam through a bolted moment connection at the top splice. Two 1-1/4 inch Grade 50 flange plates bridge the splice with heavy-duty bolts and complete joint penetration welds. Stiffener plates extend to the end of the flange plates and are welded to the column web and flanges. The supporting beam frames into the column flange with complete joint penetration welds on the beam flanges and web, with stiffener plates matching the beam flange thickness.
