A steel beam frames into a structural steel column flange using a complete joint penetration weld typical to the flange alongside a shear connection sized per the steel connection schedules. This configuration applies when a moment connection occurs on each side of the column and girder. Complete joint penetration welds transfer heavy lateral forces directly through the beam flanges into the column. A separate shear connection transfers gravity loads from the web independently.
A CJP TYP TO COLUMN FLANGE SHEAR CONNECTION, SEE STEEL CONNECTON SCHEDULES TYP NOTES: 1. CONNECTIONS ARE SIMILAR WHERE MOMENT CONNECTION OCCURS ON EACH SIDE OF COLUMN / GIRDER
