Two structural framing conditions illustrate transitions between new construction and existing construction at a separation joint. The first condition pairs two symmetrical new steel beams supporting slab edges with a defined gap sized per architectural drawings. The second condition abuts a dashed existing steel beam and slab assembly on one side against a solid new steel beam and slab assembly on the other side across an architectural joint. Both assemblies align the top flanges of the wide-flange beams with formed concrete or metal deck slab edges separated by a clear dimension.
