An elevator spreader beam framed into a wide flange steel column using a three-eighths-inch connection plate welded with a three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld and secured with four seven-eighths-inch diameter bolts. Shims are inserted as required between the members to adjust tolerances. A note specifies that at side plated wide flange conditions, an HSS beam to HSS beam connection detail must be used.
