A steel beam is supported by a one-inch-minimum seat plate and quarter-inch side plates welded with quarter-inch fillet welds. Where beams occur on both sides, a bucket is provided on each side; otherwise, a single quarter-inch-thick web stiffener is installed on the required side. Fastening is accomplished using fifteen self-drilling screws measuring two and a half inches on each side, totaling six per beam, with two-inch screws specified at three-and-a-half-inch-wide beams. The side plates maintain a width equal to the beam width plus one-sixteenth of an inch.
