A buckling-restrained brace connects to a structural steel column web at a floor level with a gusset plate welded to the column and beam. Stiffener plates matching the column flange thickness are provided at a minimum of one-half inch, with stiffener plate thickness equaling the beam web plate plus one-eighth inch minimum. Complete joint penetration welds are specified on three sides typically. Fillet welds of five-sixteenth inch are applied on three sides typically. The floor assembly features a concrete slab on metal deck framing into the steel beam.
