Steel column cap plate and stiffener connection details showing perpendicular and parallel web alignments with associated fillet welds. A cap plate measuring one and one-half inches thick is specified for W8 or W10 shapes, while a two-inch thick cap plate is used for W12 or larger sections. One-half by sixteen-inch stiffener plates are welded near side and far side to the column web. Fillet welds of various sizes secure the assembly, including three-eighths inch typical at flanges and seven-sixteenths inch typical at webs.
