A structural steel beam bears onto a steel column sized per the framing plan via a three-quarter-inch thick bearing plate secured with three-quarter-inch diameter machine bolts. Three-eighths-inch thick stiffener plates are welded to the web and flanges of the beam with quarter-inch fillet welds on each side. The bearing plate connects to the column top flange with three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds.
