An HSS6x4x1/4 hollow structural section column sits on a three-quarter-inch thick base plate measuring twelve by twelve inches, secured to the top flange of a supporting beam with four seven-eighth-inch diameter A325N bolts. A one-quarter-inch thick by twelve-inch wide by one-foot-zero-inch long filler plate provides deck support beneath the base plate assembly. The base plate is welded to the HSS column with a one-quarter-inch fillet weld on three sides. An HSS girt is welded continuously to the top of the column with a one-quarter-inch cap plate. Three-eighth-inch stiffener plates aligned to the HSS centerline are welded to the near side and far side of the beam web.
