Elevator guiderail connections to hollow structural section tubes occur at the roof deck and composite slab levels. An L5x5x3/8 angle is used at the roof deck and an L5x3x3/8 angle at the composite slab, each fastened with two 3/4-inch diameter bolts. Long slotted vertical holes are provided in the angle with standard holes in the hollow structural section, requiring bolts to be finger tightened, threads damaged to prevent loosening, and installed in the center of the slot. The structural tubes are bevel cut to allow bolt installation and connect to all hollow structural sections to ensure proper support stiffness where multiple sections are provided. The guiderail connection itself is supplied by the elevator contractor.
