A structural steel column bears on a base plate secured by four three-quarter-inch diameter anchor rods with a one-foot-zero-inch minimum embedment into the concrete support. The column end and base plate are finished per AISC standards, with five-sixteenths inch fillet welds connecting the column to the base plate. A two-inch maximum diameter grout hole is provided at the contractor's option, and non-shrink grout fills the one-and-one-half-inch space beneath the plate. The contractor must hold the base plate rigidly in place during the grouting process.
