An engineered wood brace consists of a one-and-three-quarter-inch by nine-and-a-half-inch L.V.L. connected to an existing joist. The connection is made with quarter-inch diameter by three-and-a-half-inch self-drilling screws spaced at twelve inches on center on each side. A steel channel is placed on each side and offset by three-quarters of an inch. A through-bolt assembly ties the channels and LVL brace through the existing joist.
