A wide-flange beam frames into a hollow structural section column with a plate connection. The column is slotted as required, with the slot made one-sixteenth inch wider than the plate, and receives a one-quarter inch cap plate with a seal weld all around unless noted otherwise. The connection plate is three-eighths inch thick with standard holes for seven-eighths inch diameter ASTM A325-N bolts installed snug tight, referencing sheet 2/S6.01 for the number of bolts. The plate is trimmed at one-sided connections, maintaining one-half inch to the end of the plate. Fillet welds of five-sixteenths inch typical secure the plate assemblies.
