This structural steel connection details a kicker brace assembly tying a wide-flange column to framing beams beneath a metal deck. The lateral brace consists of double angles sized 2L3X2 with long legs back-to-back, fastened with two three-quarter-inch diameter high-strength bolts typically at each end. Gusset and connection plates measuring three-eighths of an inch thick are welded with quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides. Three-eighths of an inch thick stiffener plates are provided top and bottom at the column joint. Clearances of one inch maximum and one-half inch maximum are maintained at specific intersections.
