Vertical reinforcing dowels connect the core wall to the foundation mat using hook dowels or headed bars at the contractor's option. Dowel size and spacing match the shear wall vertical reinforcement. Wall tie reinforcement including hoops and crossties extends a minimum of twelve inches into the top of the mat foundation and throughout any pits in the mat.
