A steel beam bears directly on a steel column topped with a steel cap plate sized per the column schedule. A steel cap plate welds to the column with quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides. A beam web stiffener or beam web connection plate is provided on each side of the beam web, secured with quarter-inch fillet welds. The beam web connects to a shear tab or connection plate with bolts.
