A supported steel beam connects to a supporting beam web via a full depth welded shear plate designated XW with a three-quarters inch maximum clearance. A full depth stiffener plate is welded to the supporting beam with quarter-inch fillets on three sides. Erection bolts are provided as required for initial assembly. A five-sixteenths inch field weld secures the shear plate to the supported beam.
