A structural steel beam frames into a hollow structural section column supporting a sloped roof. The assembly uses a five-sixteenths inch bearing plate, one-half inch minimum wider than the column or beam whichever is greater, secured with four five-eighths inch diameter A307 bolts at standard beam gauge. Three-eighths inch stiffener plates are welded to each side on the centerline of the hollow structural section column with three-sixteenths inch fillet welds. A full-depth shear plate connects the perpendicular steel beam per sheet S5.01 using five-sixteenths inch fillet welds.
