An open-web steel joist bears on a wide flange support with the top chord leg extended two inches minimum over the supporting member, designed by the joist manufacturer to support a three-hundred-pound load at the brace unless noted otherwise on plan. An angle strut connects to the joist using a three-sixteenth-inch fillet weld with a two-inch length. At the wide flange column web, the connection utilizes a one-half-inch plate extended to the web with a five-sixteenth-inch fillet weld per sheet 17/S-503 for W8 conditions.
