An expansion joint condition occurs between a new concrete curb and an existing concrete slab on metal deck. The new concrete curb ties back into the existing slab using number four dowels drilled and epoxied with a six inch minimum embedment. A steel beam with a shear connection bears onto a three-quarter inch steel plate at the underside of the curb, secured by through bolts. Additional steel plates and drilled and epoxied dowels tie the assembly to the existing wall. Five-sixteenth inch fillet welds are specified typically on each side.
