An existing wide flange girder is reinforced along the central half of its span using a new inverted WT 12x34 section attached to the underside of the bottom flange. The WT retrofit spans the middle L/2 portion, leaving the outer L/4 end segments unreinforced. A continuous 5/16-inch fillet weld connects the WT stem or flange to the existing beam, specified with a 4-12 intermittent or specific weld configuration. The installation strengthens the existing steel member to handle increased structural loads.
