A wide-flange steel girder frames over a hollow structural section column, bearing on a 1-inch thick by 14-inch wide by 2-foot 3-inch long cap plate centered on the column top with a 3/8-inch weld. The wide-flange girder connects to the cap plate using eight 7/8-inch diameter A325-N bolts arranged at standard gauge spacings of 1 1/2 inches, 4 inches, and 8 inches. Stiffener plates welded with typical 3/16-inch fillets align on both sides of the girder web directly above the column supports.
