An opening up to two feet maximum is blocked out with styrofoam before the concrete pour, with the metal deck cut only after the concrete fill reaches design strength. Two number four reinforcing bars are placed on each side as shown around the opening, supplemented by two number four bars spanning the full span. Openings less than six inches require no additional reinforcing.
