A structural steel beam frames into a steel column topped with a steel cap plate. A full depth beam connection plate or web stiffener plate is welded to the beam web with quarter-inch fillet welds applied to three sides typical. The beam flange bears on the steel cap plate, secured with a quarter-inch fillet weld. Metal roof deck spans continuously over the top flange of the steel beam.
